구글이 인터넷전화 사업에 관심을 갖고 업체를 탐색중이란 설이 나돌고 있습니다. 일단 Skype와의 대항을 위해서 Pulver와 XTen이 거론되고 있지만 업체선정에 대한 설득력은 다소 떨어집니다. 아무튼 Yahoo가 BT와 함께 인터넷전화 사업을 제대로 할것처럼 얘기하다가 흐지부지하고 있는데 Google이 이번에 준비한다면 그 파급효과는 정말 클 것입니다. 구글이 깔아논 Data Network에 Voice가 날개를 펼 수도 있겠네요. 일단 현재의 AdSense와 같은 YellowPage 수익모델이 가능하겠네요.










Google revolutionised the internet. Now it is hoping to do the same with our phones. The company behind the US-based internet search engine looks set to launch a free telephone service that links users via a broadband internet connection using a headset and home computer. The technology that will enable Google to move in on the market has been around for some time. Software by the London-based company, Skype, has been downloaded nearly 54 million times around the world but no large telecommunication firms have properly exploited it.

BT, which connects seven out of ten British households, has developed its own internet-telephone service. However, the telephone giant, which has the most to lose if the new technology takes off, has been reluctant to promote it heavily. Julian Hewitt, senior partner at Ovum, a telecoms consultancy, said: “From a telecoms perspective there is a big appeal in the fact that Google is a search operation and of course the Google brand is a huge draw.”
