구글이 웹 기반 워드 프로세서 서비스인 Writely.com을 인수하였다. Writely는 온라인상에서 MS워드와 상당부분 비슷한 기능을 제공하고 있고 협업 기능과 온라인 퍼블리슁 기능도 훌륭한 서비스다. 이에 'MS 워드 킬러'라는 별명까지 붙었던 Writely를 구글이 인수함으로써 구글은 MS와 대놓고 경쟁하는 구도가 되었다.

어제 세미나에서도 'Google이 기존 MS의 오피스 제품을 웹서비스로 제공하거나 공짜 Application으로 제공한다고 하는데, MS는 어떻게 대응하고 있나요?' 라는 질문을 받았었다. 대답은 MS는 Live.com으로 대응하고 있지만 느리다는 것이다.(공룡이니 어쩔수 없다고 해야하나?) 참고로 구글은 이미 온라인 캘린더 서비스도 준비하고 있으며 이 서비스가 Gmail에 붙으면 MS 아웃룩은 제대로 한방 맞게 될 것으로 예상된다. 그럼 구글은 엑셀이나 파워포인트도 만들까? :-)

첫번째 웹2.0 컨퍼런스에서 구글 에코시스템을 아주 간단하게 요약해서 소개했던 적이 있다. "Google’s Business Strategy is Simple, Monetizing from Ads, NOT from Solution like Maps and Googlers(Users)."

정보 라이프 사이클 상에서 검색은 허브 역할을 하고 그 허브를 이젠 정보의 수집, 저장, 공유라는 것들이 인프라로써 확장해 나가고 있다. 이미 야후는 Flickr와 Del.icio.us를 인수하였고 구글은 이제 Google Base에 이어 Writely 업체를 인수한 것이라 보면 된다. 또한 장기적으로는 Google Pack(included Google Office)이 내장된 Google Mini가 눈에 보인다.

마지막으로 Writely 블로그를 통해 그들이 구글에 조인하게 된 10가지 이유를 읽어보니 참 재밌다. 10번은 가장 인상적이고, 마지막 1번은 가장 위트있게 느껴진다.:-)
