Software experts say recent innovations in web design are ushering in a new era for internet based software applications, some of the best of which already rival desktop applications in power and efficiency. 다소 정적인 웹 페이지에 다이나믹한 요소를 보여주며 웹의 새로운 모습을 보여주고 있는 구글의 G메일과 지도 서비스, 아마존의 A9 검색엔진, 넷플릭스 플랫폼에는 기술적으로 공통점이 있다. 바로 에이약스(AJAX)라는 기술을 활용한 것인데 이는 웹 페이지와 대량 데이터를 연결하는 기술로 데스크톱 소프트웨어처럼 빠른 응용 프로그램을 웹상에서 구현되도록 한다.
